While 2025 marked AddSecure’s 10-year anniversary, did you know we’ve actually been pioneering communications solutions for around 55 years? Originating in Scandinavia, we’ve expanded globally and show no signs of stopping – entering a new market only last year. From humble beginnings to an industry leader, we’re proud of everything we’ve accomplished since we began half a century ago, and since we evolved into AddSecure a decade ago.
The UK’s alarm sector is being plagued by an ongoing skills shortage. The BSIA has suggested that over 30,000 more alarm engineers are needed to meet the current demand, however, couple this with the pressure brought by the government’s ambitious housing, infrastructure and retrofit agenda, it is estimated that an additional one million workers will be needed by 2030. The sector is woefully underprepared for what’s to come. Our VP of Alarm Signalling UK, Nicholas Whiting, discusses the challenges facing the sector and how AddSecure is doing its bit to tackle the skills shortage.

Shopping centres and large retail sites are some of the most complex environments for security teams. High footfall, constant movement, multiple tenants, and frequent staff turnover mean incidents can escalate quickly if communication is slow or unclear. To keep visitors safe, support retailers, and maintain smooth operations, security teams need a communication system that works instantly—across every floor, every building, and every shift. The cloud-based push-to-talk solution GroupTalk provides a simple and reliable way to connect all teams in both everyday situations and critical incidents.
More and more security work is carried out alone—whether in mobile patrols, night guarding, remote sites, retail locations, or housing estates. When a lone guard faces a threat, delay or confusion can turn a manageable situation into a critical one. Traditional communication tools are often too slow, too manual, or too fragmented to guarantee fast response and clear documentation. Modern cloud-based push-to-talk platforms like GroupTalk brings everything into one secure platform.
UK security teams are under growing pressure to deliver faster, safer, and more transparent operations. With rising costs, demanding clients, and increasingly complex assignments, traditional two-way radios often struggle to keep up. Limited coverage, expensive hardware, and slow deployment can hold teams back in situations where real-time communication and documented service delivery are essential.
The ongoing shutdowns of 2G and 3G networks has already begun across the UK, with different mobile operators working to different sunsetting timelines. This shutdown will affect approximately 2.4 million outdated systems, that rely on the networks for their main or backup pathway, with some at risk of ceasing to function. Installers need to proactively upgrade systems to get ahead of these rolling shutdowns and manage the transition effectively.
With the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) switch-off set for January 2027, now is the time to start updating legacy equipment to set you, and your customers, up for success ahead of network closure.
