Futureproofing alarm signalling for high-net-worth clients
When Banham Security, one of the UK’s most established security providers, had to transition from legacy alarm signalling to modern IP-based solutions, they called upon AddSecure. With a tried-and-trusted solution, Banham Security were confident that its high-net-worth properties would be continuously protected whilst the switchover took place.
Navigating industry-wide network transitions
Dependable alarm signalling has always been a non-negotiable part of Banham Security’s offering for customers. Operating for almost 100 years, the security provider is well-known for its bespoke property security services for homeowners and trade alike, and has built its reputation on delivering reliable physical and monitored security to high-net-worth individuals and commercial premises.
When BT Redcare confirmed its closure, Roger Kay, Associate Director at Banham Security, knew that the security firm were now facing a fast-approaching deadline to replace legacy monitored alarms and avoid customers being left non-compliant or uninsured. Added to this was the ongoing PSTN shutdown, due to complete by January 2027, meaning that any replacement solution had to be genuinely futureproof rather than a short-term fix.
Banham Security appointed AddSecure to support with the large-scale transition of legacy equipment, and provide a solution that would futureproof thousands of customer devices and prevent downtime of alarm monitoring, whilst also reducing pressure on engineer resources to switch-over equipment post-BT Redcare shutdown. AddSecure brought extensive European experience in large-scale legacy alarm upgrades and signalling transitions, and had already worked with Banham Security on the development of the Next Generation Portfolio (NGP) in the UK.
Roger explains “Our customers recognise us for our ability to deliver the highest standard of security, and AddSecure represented a continuation of technology we already knew and trusted, backed by people we had worked closely with on previous projects. That trust in both the team and the service was vital as we transitioned away from legacy networks, and it gave us the confidence that we could continue servicing our customers to the best standards.”

A futureproofed alarm signalling solution
To replace its legacy signalling solutions that would be made redundant following the BT Redcare shutdown, Banham Security implemented AddSecure’s Essential IP SP4 alongside the Advanced DP2 and DP3 range as primary replacements across its monitored estate. Essential IP SP4 offered a close technical match to the previous single-path signalling, whilst the Advanced range provided dual-path capability for Grade 2 and higher-risk Grade 3 environments where insurance requirements are more stringent.
Wi-fi compatibility and broad panel support allowed Banham Security engineers to keep existing hardware in place where possible, reducing their time on site and minimising disruption or potential downtime. For larger or multi-storey installations, Banham Security also opted for the AddSecure Connect Hub, enabling secure communication between the customer’s router and the alarm signalling unit, without relying on customer Wi-fi, reducing cable runs and installation complexity.
The transition allowed the security firm to manage the BT Redcare closure in a more effective way by replacing only legacy signalling equipment, rather than making widespread, and potentially disruptive, system changes. Engineers found the hardware easy to install, with features such as the OLED display providing clear, immediate diagnostics during high-volume upgrades.
With AddSecure’s platform already proven and operating reliably for many years, Banham Security had confidence in its long-term stability. By migrating customers in a single upgrade, the security firm upheld its trust with customers and positioned the business for a much more resilient digital future.
